Far away, in the depth of the Southern Circuit, Ruaha National Park is one of the largest natural reserves of Tanzania – less beaten than Selous, even more wild, quite unaccessible… and because of these reasons, a real surprise! A huge population of baobab trees is the highlight in the landscape of this area, as well as a large number of species are a delight for game drive passionates.
But let’s talk about luxury as well! Such as other areas of Tanzania, even here the offer of accommodation is superb. We selected the top-3 camps of Ruaha National Park. Have a look and contact our experts if you want to book one of them: firstname.lastname@example.org
Under the magnificent shade trees, on the banks of a seasonal river in the remote southern sector of the Ruaha National Park, Jongomero is gloriously isolated. Far from the madding crowds, this secluded idyll offers a chance to discover true unadulterated wilderness.
Accommodation at Jongomero comprises eight large and well-appointed tented suites, built on raised wooden platforms, under enormous thatched roofs that also encompass a spacious private instant veranda which overlooks the riverbed. Snuggle under warming quilts in an eight-foot wide dhow wood emperor bed and fall asleep to the hum of Africa beyond the canvas and wake up to the morning tea tray and animals ambling past your mosquito net windows.
The quintessence of luxury in the wilds.
Asilia Kwihala Camp
This small frontier-style camp provides exceptional access to the park’s huge populations of big cats, buffalo and elephants.
Kwihala is an intimate six-bedroom camp where simple excellence is the order of the day. The main area – with its tented lounge and dining room – is the social heart of the camp. Meals are shared either under canvas or in the alfresco dining area beside the campfire, accompanied only by the stirring night sounds of the bush.
With the option of bush walks and night drives with highly knowledgeable guides, safari doesn’t get better than this.
Nomad Kigelia Camp
Located in the best wildlife area of the great Ruaha National Park, Kigelia Ruaha is a simple tented bushcamp offering all those creature comforts that you need while enjoying one of the best kept big game secrets in East Africa.
They only have six tents and it’s certainly not camping like you know it… no manicured lawns here! The tents are well furnished with locally crafted pale wood furniture and there’s a hot safari-style bucket shower under the stars (the showers are en-suite but outdoors), and a flush loo. One of the tents is the family tent which has two adjoining en-suite bedrooms.
The camp kitchen whips up some tasty feasts – simple but satisfying meals served in the intimate dining tent or better still, under the stars. Like all bush camps, there’s a camp-fire where the essential sundowner can be enjoyed as the hot day gives way to cool night.
